Ragauffin Gospel - Part II

Okay, more Brennan Manning for you. Here, Manning is quoting Frederick Buechner in his book Magnificent Defeat. Buechner says, "For what we need to know, of course, is not just that God exists, not just that beyond the steely brightness of the stars there is a cosmic intelligence of some kind that keeps the whole show going, but that there is a God right here in the thick of our day-by-day lives who may not be writing messages about himself in the stars but in one way or another is trying to get messages through our blindness as we move around down here knee-deep in the fragrant muck and misery and marvel of the world. It is not objective proof of God's existence that we want but the experience of God's presence. That is the miracle we are really after, and that is also, I think, the miracle that we really get."

Whoa, big fella'! It's hard sometimes for me to realize that God is here, side-by-side with me through my day. And in some way, His own way, He is attempting to get messages to me through my day-to-day life. Am I allowing myself to allow God to show Himself to me, to make Himself known? It is one of my biggest fears that I will shut God out of my daily life and drown out His voice in my heart. When that happens, I know no good can come of it. How often have I done this and why am I still allowing myself to do this?

Silly things are fun and needed if one is to keep one's sanity.
