As I write this, I’m sitting in Barnes and Noble/Starbucks studying for the last final of my first semester of Truett Seminary. I can’t believe how fast time has flown by. It seems like just two weeks ago I was sitting in my apartment cracking the books open for the first time. As I was taking a break, I was reminiscing about the semester. It has been full of ups and downs and highs and lows. Here’s what I remember most (in no particular order):
1. Meeting the covenant group girls early in the morning for breakfast together. That was the first time that I felt I connected with the girls and we laughed, hard and learned a lot about each other.
2. The first day at Ngan’s class; sitting there feeling like I wasn’t a Christian and that I was pretty much inadequate.
3. The feeling of dropping Ngan’s class!
4. My first flight (ever) home in September. A little scary at first, but pretty awesome once I got used to it.
5. Baylor’s Homecoming. Searching for the pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and being temporarily “lost”. Then watching the parade and feeling like a kid again. It was great!! I remember the sleepover the night before with Jennifer and Kristen and laughing all night long. Even though we didn’t go to the game, we were still excited.
6. “My girls” being there when I needed them most this semester. Through the illness of my grandfather to my own issues I had to accept, they were more accepting than I ever thought or deserved.
7. The countless hours spent in Starbucks or some other coffee house just talking about life. Priceless.
8. Hating and loving DreamWeaver all in the same hour!
9. The constant teammates from Kristen and Dinah and how much fun it was to assign the teammates.
10. Truett Christmas Banquet and the great laughs at the professors expense.
11. Calvary hymn sing.
12. Visiting the Cameron Park Zoo…it’s great to be a kid again.
13. Just living in Waco.
14. Spending time with Jennifer and her family decorating their Christmas tree.
15. Having dinner at the Garlands’ and getting to know new friends better.
16. Learning how to play poker with the 4 “J’s”: Jeff, Jared, Jonathan, and Jennifer.
17. The ridiculous weather in Texas: 30 degrees one day and 70 the next, including the killer wind that will blow your car over!
18. My first experience with showering in the Waco water.
19. The traffic jam that stuck me on the interstate coming back from Thanksgiving, which made an hour drive last 3.5 hours.
20. The ability to walk into Betty T.’s office knowing someone there will talk to.
21. Tater Tots (that’s for you, Kristen)
I love Waco and I’m having a blast. Just think, all this was in one semester. I can’t wait to see what is next.
