The Preemptive Love Coalition

I've been exposed to such great things while being in the School of Social Work, but none has touched my heart like the Preemptive Love Coalition. A friend has been working closely with this project for a while now and has been giving me lots of information and I wanted to share it with you.

The Preemptive Love Coalition was formed in response to the gassings of Saadam Hussein. Children in Iraq, even those in utero have been affected by the gassings and the effect has been irreversible heart damage.

"Thousands of children suffer the effects of heart diseases that begin while the child is still in utero. In a country like Iraq, these are some of the hardest diseases to understand because the contributing factors are not always identifiable or understood until it is far too late. In rural areas where rice, dates, & breads are the primary dietary staple, malnutrition is cited as another contributing factor. Intra-family marriage - a practice common in tribal societies and further reinforced by histories of ethnic cleansing - is still practiced by many today and probably also contributes to the prevalence of these diseases. Most of the congenital diseases we see involve holes in the heart and a four-fold anomaly known as Tetralogy of the Fallot."

The coalition was formed to send US doctors to Iraq to perform the desperately needed heart surgeries for these children. These kids are so sick, they can't even blow a pinwheel.

Tonight, I am attending a pinwheel party for the coalition. The goal is to make 3000 pinwheels to represent the 3000 children that will die each day without the surgery.

Even though Saadam is gone, his war crimes continue. Please visit the website: www.preemptivelove.org to get more information and to read some of the persona stories of the children. Pray for these children and these doctors.
